SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM (SRT)
Repelling from Judicial Center Inverted Repel

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office utilizes a Special Response Team (SRT) that has the responsibility of responding to any high-risk situations that may arise out of the Sheriff's Office duties. The SRT Tactical Team also assists the Montgomery County Police Emergency Response Team on high risk calls that they may receive. The SRT is comprised of Tactical Members, Canine, Crisis Negotiators and Tactical Medics.

Entry by a Team Member

The Tactical Team is comprised of deputies who have successfully completed an extensive screening process and have attended a comprehensive three week Basic SWAT School. After completing the Basic SWAT School, deputies are selected for the tactical team based on the number of open positions and the overall performance record of the applying deputy. The Tactical Team responds to every Sheriff's Office initiated high-risk incident and is responsible for the planning and tactical resolution of the incident. The members of the Tactical Team must participate in on-going training in order to maintain their position on the team. They must also maintain a high level of fitness and proficiency with all weapons that are authorized to be carried.

The Crisis Negotiators also must successfully complete an initial screening process and attend a Basic Crisis Negotiator School. The negotiators are required to respond with the Tactical Team to Sheriff's Office initiated incidents and are responsible for negotiating with the subject or subjects involved, if that is deemed to be necessary. Negotiators must also participate in on-going training in order to maintain their status on the team.

A deputy must be EMT-B certified in order to be considered for the position of Tactical Medic. They then attend a Basic Tactical Medic Course. Tactical Medics are required to respond with the Tactical Team to Sheriff's Office initiated incidents and are responsible for providing care for any injury that may arise during the SRT response.
