Fugitive/Warrant Unit
The Criminal/Warrant Section investigates, locates and arrest approximately 3,000 fugitives per year for charges ranging from very serious felonies to lesser offenses and misdemeanors. The Sheriff is responsible for serving all Circuit Court and District Court civil bench warrants. The Warrant Section maintains on-line warrant systems including National, State and Local systems.
Fugitive Extraditions
The Criminal/Warrant Section is also tasked with extraditions. When fugitives are arrested in jurisdictions outside of Montgomery County for outstanding Circuit Court warrants, the Sheriff takes custody of the person and returns the fugitive to Montgomery County for prosecution. The defendant is then taken before the court for purposes of bond or incarceration.
